Our Lady of the Assumption Parish provide Parish Religious Education Program for children in Kindergarten to Grade 7. PREP begins in September and ends in May the following year. To Learn more about PREP please contact Parish Office.
The parish religious education program is the forum for faith formation of children and adolescents. It provides catechesis for children grades K-7. Our parish volunteer catechists are supported in their ministry through regular In Service meetings, and Faith Formation provided through the Archdiocese of Vancouver. This program is coordinated by Julie Lee, a parishioner who is currently the PREP Coordinator. In addition to our generous volunteer catechists and aides, the parents take an active role in volunteering in the many components of the Religious Education Program.
First Penance, & First Eucharist: children are formally prepared to celebrate these sacraments in Grade 2, given that they have actively participated in their faith formation in Grade 1. All other children are directed to Christian Initiation of Children.
Our current practice for formal catechesis for the Sacrament of Confirmation is Grade 7. However, this is a two year process, with preparation for the Sacrament beginning in Grade 7. Parents and candidates are required to attend a meeting prior to beginning the process. All other children are directed to Christian Initiation of Children.
This is "The Year of Faith" and a great year to learn and grow your faith!
