Fr. Ronald Thompson was born March 30, 1954 in Vancouver, the eldest son of James and Catherine (Rooney) Thompson. His father died February 8, 1984 and his mother died May 5, 2003. He has three siblings; two sisters and one brother. He attended St. Andrew's School and John Oliver High School in Vancouver. Afterwards he attended the Seminary of Christ the King in Mission. From there he went to the University of Waterloo where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree. He later went on to receive his Masters of Divinity Degree at the University of Western Ontario and his Masters of Education Degree at the University of Calgary.

Father Thompson was ordained on May 5th, 1979 (his paternal Grandmother's 83rd Birthday). He has served in the following parishes: St. Patrick's Vancouver, St. Mary's Chilliwack, St. Edmund's N. Vancouver, St. John the Apostle Vancouver, Holy Cross Burnaby and St. Anthony's Vancouver (14 years).
